After a six-year hiatus, Los Angeles electronic duo Dance Spirit officially return today with “Tranquilized & Hypnotized,” the first single from their forthcoming sophomore album, Lunatic, available now on all major streaming platforms via their newly launched independent imprint, Koukan.
The release marks the beginning of a new chapter for Christopher Mohn and Reagan Denius, who originally completed Lunatic before the pandemic before ultimately choosing to independently bring the project to life years later. Rather than allowing the music to remain unheard, the duo reunited to release the album on their own terms, embracing complete creative independence.
“Tranquilized & Hypnotized” offers the first glimpse into Lunatic, an immersive body of work exploring duality, transformation, healing and human connection through Dance Spirit’s signature blend of cinematic electronica, modular textures and hypnotic percussion.
The release arrives with three distinct interpretations of the composition. The Original Cut presents the album version, while the Tranquilized Mix strips the arrangement back into an ambient listening experience. The Hypnotized Mix reimagines the track as a deep, hypnotic minimal groove designed for the dancefloor.
“Some of life’s greatest transformations come through heartbreak, loss and unexpected challenges,” says Christopher Mohn. “Releasing it together after everything we’ve been through is a reminder that some stories simply aren’t finished.”
The full eleven-track album Lunatic follows on September 25, accompanied by original visual works for every composition. Entirely self-produced and independently released through Koukan, the project represents Dance Spirit’s most ambitious work to date.
